George is a protector to Lennie. George says, “‘Lennie – if you jus’ happen to get in trouble like you always done before, I want you to come right here an’ hide in the brush’” (16). The numerous mistakes Lennie makes harm himself and other people’s lives. He is naïve and his actions cause many problems. Lennie does not want to cause any trouble, but he has the strength of a bull and does not know how to control it. Lennie continually makes mistakes that put people’s lives in danger; “He shook her; and her body flopped like a fish. And then she was still, for Lennie had broken her neck” (89). When Lennie kills Curley’s wife, he does not realize how his actions affect his surroundings, a habit that causes him to hurt people.
