Reinhard Heydrich From 1941 to 1945 about 6 million Jews were murdered by the Nazis in the Holocaust. One of the most important men to the Nazi cause of mass murdering the Jews was Reinhard Heydrich, one of the highest men in the SS. Reinhard Heydrich had an interesting life as a child and young adult, and a influential career as a Nazi. Heydrich’s death in 1942 was a turning point towards the extermination of Jews in Europe. Reinhard Heydrich had an unique childhood and life as a young adult. Heydrich was born on March 7th, 1904, Halle an der Salle, Germany. His father Bruno was non-religious and a singer and composer. Heydrich was so confident in himself that he disregarded measures for his own security and traveled around Prague in an open vehicle. On May 27, 1942 two Czech parachute agents threw a hand grenade that rolled underneath Heydrich’s vehicle. Though not wounded by the grenade blast, Heydrich was infected by Grenade splinters from the car that killed him on June 4, 1942. After his car exploded, Heydrich managed to get out of the car and shoot back at the assassins before collapsing in the streets. Himmler’s private doctors could not save him. Hitler was very upset that Heydrich was killed and sent the Gestapo and SS to find and murder all Czechs involved or suspected in the murder. The Gestapo murderer about 1000 Czechs and 3000 Jews were also murdered. In addition the village of Lidice was destroyed on the fake charge by Hitler that it helped the assassins.
