Reflective Journal: It All Comes Together
As my journey through Writing 39B comes to an end, I begin to reflect deeper on the spectacular experiences I have had. Coming in as a Computer Science major, writing was something that was not high up in my priorities in learning. Most of what I learned involved technical and literal logic that did not really apply to writing, or so I thought before taking this course. However, as time progressed and I really got a feeling for how important and crucial rhetorical skills are. I realized that technology and writing go hand in hand. I realized that regardless of what major I intend to pursue, the rhetorical skills and knowledge that come with writing are ever important. And this influenced my decision …show more content…
As I mentioned earlier, the motivating reasons for basing my project on a technical blog was my background in technology and my desire to combine what I had learned in terms of rhetorical analysis. This really helped me to get out of my comfort zone and apply my rhetorical skills in their fullest. First, I chose an audience, purpose, and context to shape the rest of my rhetorical elements such as genre, medium, etc around. By starting off with an audience and purpose in mind, it made it easier to cater the rest of the rhetorical elements to them. However, I also wanted to keep in mind other examples of technical blogs that would help me better shape my genres, i.e science fiction and blogging, and the conventions that I would apply or discard. And in order to do so, I went through to research three of the most well known technical blogs to get a feeling for their formatting, content, and target audience. The reason for adding those three specific technical add-ons was the fact that the audience's attitudes and desires reflected an interest in drastic changes in technology that would directly impact their daily life or their work life. And the features such as Augmented Reality and Near-field Communication would be ground-breaking and eye-catching attractions to them. In addition to that, these features would fit the genre of Science Fiction under the convention of bringing non-existant but plausible pieces of technology to life, and …show more content…
My first draft, located in the same page as the RIP Project, highlights my initial attempts to create and develop rhetorical features such as genre, medium, and venue before having considered the audience I wanted to approach. This resulted in a more messy and unclear idea of several of the rhetorical elements I needed to tackle. Looking at the respones to the questions I asked my peer reviewer, my reviewer mentioned that the genre was unclear due to my work being non-fiction. Taking this into consideration I realized that my original work was not as effective and refined as it could be, so I changed it into the informative tech blog that it is now. Also, looking at sample RIPs provided, I was able to get a better picture on how to format and create my
