Reflection About My Writing

Great Essays
After completing the Write Experience assignment I was both disappointed and pleased. I was disappointed with my grade. I thought that I was a much better writer than the program was giving me credit for. I was frustrated as I kept submitting my assignment because the final submission was lower than my second submission. I didn’t understand what I was doing wrong. I was also very pleased because I was learning a lot about my writing errors, and I was learning new tips and tricks about the focus, content, organization, language, and mechanics used to write my paper. The first type of error that I noticed in my writing, with the help of Cengage, was the sentence variety error. I noticed that I started nearly every sentence with the word “I,” and all of my sentences were the exact same length. In my writing, I was using simple sentences to form my entire paper. This error made my paper extremely boring to read. I fixed my paper by adding a variety of different sentence types and avoiding the word “I” as much as possible. I added a few compound sentences and complex sentences to keep my readers attention. In the first submission of my assignment, I used sentences like: “I am very devoted to the company because…. I am very passionate about the company.” But in the second submission, I merged those …show more content…
I struggle a lot with understanding when to use, and when not to use commas. I found that I had many errors regarding them, but the most frequent one was comma splices. I tried to link independent clauses together with a comma and without a coordinating conjunction. The grammar lesson in class helped me recognize that I was having this issue. I quickly learned how to correct it. I changed sentences from “I am a very driven worker, I also don’t back down from completion.” To “I am a very hard worker who doesn’t back down from completion.” Or “ I am a very hard worker, and I don’t back down from the

One of the first recurrent mistakes that I made in the first draft of my composition was spelling out names and adding too many letters. For example, when I tried to spell out my father’s name. I wrote his name as jota-a-y griega-uve-i-e-ere. This spells out the name Jayvier. His name is properly spelled jota-a-uve-i-e-ere, which spells out Javier.…

I also had punctuation errors, putting periods inside of quotations, and capitalizing words that didn’t need to be capitalized. And, I realized that my descriptions were vague, so I started to divulge more details in the essays. I can fix this by either taking out unnecessary details, or by making them into multiple compound sentences. Also I have noticed that I had run on sentences. My essay did have some good qualities to it though.…

My experiences with writing have been somewhat limited until I signed up for English 101. I have to admit that English was not my favorite subject in school. I never felt like I was any good at writing, and spelling is still not my strong suit. I always felt like I was better at math. My attitude towards writing was my biggest hindrance to my success.…

After evaluating my essay, I do not feel that I had used good sentence variety, for on the third page of my argument, I counted my sentence types and I found that I used simple sentence about 70% of the time. On the other hand, I gained new skills on how to improve my writing through my errors. By making mistakes, I was able to learn about quotations namely, when to incorporate them and when to leave them out. I also learned how to structure an essay as well and where to put transition sentences. I will learn from my mistakes and better my learning through trial and…

For the Revision Assignment, I chose to revise my film review because it was my lowest grade that I had on a writing assignment. I felt I could improve on a lot of sloppy errors I made and missed he first writing process by giving it a more keen editing and revision process. I really enjoyed this assignment because it allowed us as writers to express ourselves with more freedom than the other, more academic, assignments we’ve been prompted to write over the course of English Composition I and II. The first time I wrote this piece I followed the writing process of prewriting, writing, revision, then editing. I felt this was a strong paper content-wise.…

After reading my first writing project I noticed two things, first I could improve some sentences and go more into detail with some topics. I could fix some sentences to have the essay flow better for anyone reading it. I felt as if I jump from one sentence to another and left out some details that would be helpful to the reader. At the points where I highlighted some confusion, I will go back and fix them. I didn't hear any serious errors that needed to be fixed, but found spots where the paper could be improved.…

In this seminar the three key points I would like to talk about is to always look at the examples for discussion boards and assignments, where to go and learn how to cite resources correctly and the different steps you can take for your topic. When I am unsure of what is required for a post or paper I can always go look at the example to read one. After I see an example I can have an idea of what to wrote about. Also the processor talked about a part of the writing center where I can go learn more about citing my resources. This will come in handy because I still struggle with citing my resources so for now on the writing center will be seeing more of me.…

Throughout the duration of this course there have been many writing assignments and all of them have presented their own set of challenges and they have all improved myself as a writer and as a thinker. Some did this more than others such as the Quest I: Summary and Analysis and the Quest II: SASE Report, both of these assignments pushed me to think of different things outside the comfort zone I was used to. The fact that both of these assignments had me to write an analysis of different articles made me think about these articles in a different way to try and figure out what the authors where trying to convey to me. Then having to write my thoughts down clearly challenged me to become a better writer because putting my thoughts on paper in a clear manner has always been a struggle for me. For the most part I feel as if I overcome and accomplished this goal in a very successful manner.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

I have also learned that the spelling and grammar check is your best friend while writing a paper. To be an active reader means not to be just someone who likes to read all of the time but to become more involved in what the reader is reading. It is important to engage while you’re reading because you’re more likely to understand the text more clearly. To be a critical thinker means to be able to think for yourself and to be reliable and being responsible for making decisions that affect your life. This semester I have done a lot of reading and writing which had pertained to both active reading and being a critical thinker. Being a critical thinker in this writing class makes you add your own thoughts and analyze important issues regarding the books that we read.…

Yet, there are various content improvements that I must make in my writings to make them publishable.
