Transformational Leadership Reflection

I do this as a leader because I learned it is easier to appeal to my subordinates on their level. I lead by being positive, I mentor and I motivate my subordinates. This style allows me to communicate with them better. I actively listen to my subordinates by valuing what they say. I individually listen to their points of view and take it into consideration. With experience, I learned that my subordinates trust me and follow me because I am a good wingman. I use the wingman concept in my leadership because it allows me to get to know my subordinates on a personal level. I am always available for not just my subordinates but all subordinates. I lead individuals who are either more adaptive or more innovative. I use this to guide them on what needs to be done to get the mission completed. Depending on the situation I am in, I try to adapt to that situation or environment. There are times when I am placed in unfamiliar situations but I learn to cope in these situations.
In the next three to five years I want to be a better wingman. The wingman concept applies to on and off duty. Getting to know my

That leader who is always involved in their subordinates on and off duty time. I think I am a good leader as well as a good follower. But I want to be perceived as a good leader. I want to be a better leader to my subordinates by taking charge more. As stated earlier I can volunteer with them. This shows my subordinates and my peers that I am not just telling my subordinates to do unnecessary things. This shows my peers that I support my subordinates. What I expect of my subordinates, I am going to expect of myself as well. This will help me to led by example more and to be perceived by. At times, I over analyze things and think way too far

Before delving further into leadership and management theories and styles it is good to understand the difference between a manager and a leader. Bennis and Nanus (1985, p221) state that ‘managers are people who do things right and leaders are people that do the right thing.’ Yukl (2002, p7) goes on to suggest that leadership is the process of influencing others to understand and agree about what needs to be done and how it can be done effectively, and the process of facilitating individual and collective efforts to accomplish the shared objectives. However, Stodgill (1974:7) powerfully stated that ‘there are as many definitions of leadership as there are persons who have tried to define it.’ Although there are varying definitions to leadership…

My decisive score showed moderately low on the “D” spectrum and I thought that was very accurate. I tend to be hesitant on sharing my opinions in big group setting and I also would rather support someone else’s decisions rather than argue with them unless they are completely wrong.…
