Reflective Essay On The English Class

Improved Essays
Before I enrolled into your English class, I took English 307 in the fall semester of 2014. Also, I had taken another English 100 course with a different instructor. For many reasons, I immediately dropped that class in the first week of the semester. I don’t remember the instructor’s name, but right away, I knew his class wasn’t for me. His technique of teaching didn’t fit with my learning style, and his assignments were getting too repetitive. I wasn’t learning anything that would be helpful for my future classes. After, that semester ended, I decided to retake English 100 with you. The start of this semester, I was feeling very nervous because I knew the material would be harder than 307. English wasn’t my strong subject in school. Since …show more content…
It can be noticed quickly when I read my paper out loud. I tend to misuse pronouns in my writing. For example, I selected a sentence from my second essay that shows one of my weaknesses, “It’s not how the person’s body image looks like or how much they weigh.” Misusing pronouns is the common mistake I make frequently. Subject-verb agreement is another subject that I’ve always struggle with in my writing. I don’t catch the error when I proofread the sentences. It’s difficult for me to make sure the subject agrees with the verb. This quote from my Bluest Eye essay shows one of my weaknesses. “People admires her brown hair, green eyes, and her perfect complexion. The dark skinned people embraces her whiteness as a perfection.” I picked two sentences from my Narrative Essay that I actually thought it showcase my strengths: “As I entered my english class, I listened and glanced at the students chattering about the elephant in the room: the senior project.” and “My heart started to beat so fast like it wanted to run away when I heard someone say to me.” I believe those two sentences were well written, and demonstrated the emotions that I was feeling. Also, the quotes shows how I can use description in my …show more content…
I feel I accomplished a lot in this course. I’m more confident in my writing skills. Before taking this class, I wasn’t really confident in my writing and my work. I will take many things from this class to English 1A. When we had to do the in-class editing, that actually helped me proofreading my essays. Also, the grammar tools and the techniques that you went over this semester. Since I struggle with grammar, the handouts that you gave us earlier this semester will help me for English 1A. I will continue working on my weaknesses throughout the months. Hopefully, they will become better the more I work on

Early on in this class my writing was not the best, but through the extensive practice and learning about different writing prompts and techniques my writing got better throughout the year. The decoding packets that we did also helped me fix some of the frequent grammatical mistakes that I made. As the year went on this class became slightly, and I mean slightly easier. I am immensely proud of the fact that my writing has improved over this year, and the improvements in every area of writing that I made is the one thing that I feel the most accomplished…

LaDuca’s ENG 102 class. First, I have achieved nothing but success in the English classes that precede ENG 102. I adapted very well to the fast-paced environment in ENH 111, ENH 110, and ENG 101. I earned a ninety-seven percent in both semesters last year, and I am fervent to complete this semester with a ninety-eight percent in ENG 101.…

The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I always been having trouble with grammars. My high school English teachers taught us about grammars and how to become a better writer. It was similar to what you had taught us in class because we always learned about grammar out of a book and we got tested after we been practice.…

Writing was not a subject that held my interest in high school. Throughout the last twelve years I have found myself having to write letters, proposals, and business correspondence for my employers. I would complete the assignment and move on to the next task. Deciding to further my education I enrolled in Daytona State College and my first class was your ENC 1101. I have seen a change in my pre-class writing style; I have honed my skills, and the different techniques I have learned while taking this course have only improved my writing style.…

Over the course of this semester I learned a lot about myself as a writer. This English 1010 class has really allowed me to expand my essay structure and ways of thinking. When I first started this course, I was scared and didn’t really know what to expect. I branched out to different styles and types of essays as well as incorporating outside sources into my work. When I received my first essay back with the feedback and the grade, I realized that I was not a really good writer.…

I spend so much time worrying about the transitions within my body paragraphs that I tend to forget about the unnecessary, additional, or redundant phrases. For example, in Writing Project 1, I said in the third body paragraph: “The surrounding design around the article is unskillful.” The “surrounding” and “around” words used in the same sentence created a redundancy that didn’t flow as smoothly as it could have with just one of these words. Word choice is another weakness that is seen in my essays, since I do not use strong vocabulary words and sometimes write sentences with vague pronouns rather than specifying with the subject that I address in the body paragraph sentences. A smaller weakness that I have with writing essays is the minor error of not formatting citations correctly in MLA, but instead having part of the source in APA.…

I also had punctuation errors, putting periods inside of quotations, and capitalizing words that didn’t need to be capitalized. And, I realized that my descriptions were vague, so I started to divulge more details in the essays. I can fix this by either taking out unnecessary details, or by making them into multiple compound sentences. Also I have noticed that I had run on sentences. My essay did have some good qualities to it though.…

Learning to have efficient studying habits such as study the day of the class and not doing things last minute. Also learning how to actually study other subjects and how to think critically. This has increased my learning habits. My student habits have changed dramatically,…
