Teachers have the responsibility to students to be continually researching their own practise. When endeavouring to better their own teaching practise, they also better the learning experience for students. Teaching as inquiry (TAI) is a useful tool and strategy in a teacher’s Kete that can be used to disseminate the learning context they are working within. In must be acknowledged however, that TAI is a tool or strategy for teachers to use to conduct their own self-study (Cochran-Smith & Lytle, 2009 ) It is not explicitly teacher or educational research. Yet, due to TAI focusing on the immediate environment teachers are working in, it allows for a deeper analysis of their context (Benade, 2015).

This inquiry was developed in response to a learners comment. The comment was ‘Mr Sutton I cannot the writing on the board’. This prompted me to look into how to improve my writing to make it more legible for students to …show more content…
Implicitly however, throughout my life I have been conducting somewhat of an ongoing research project on my writing. I have talked to many different people who have been involved in my writing. For example people who have taught me, people who have read my writing, parents, peers, and colleagues. At the time I thought this was sufficient because they were the people who were directly in the sphere of influence that would be affecting. This impacted my connection to research in this teaching as inquiry because I thought that first hand qualitative research would be sufficient. Although this is can be a useful for TAI. I have found the power of connecting my TAI to existing research. This is because a fundamental component of teaching as inquiry is incorporating an evidence based process (Benade, 2015). Connecting TAI to existing research allows people to develop a broader lens to view how you can improve student outcomes (Amos, 2010). If research is not connected through in TAI then the process becomes less effective, because it has a
