Narrative Essay On Reckless Driving

On August 24, 2017, I made a decision to be completely aware of how precious life is. That day, I helped move my brother, Joe, into his apartment on the Central Michigan University campus. That day I came to a full realization of how reckless people are and how they completely disregard their safety and others. They take their lives for granted and don’t think about how their actions will or might affect others lives. These reckless people also rely on others to respond quickly enough to react of adapt to the situation they have been forced into to prevent loss of life. The drive up to Central Michigan University is about two hours, the majority of which is on the highway, and in that time, I had three experiences in which reckless driving …show more content…
When this happened I was very shocked as they merged just a bit too close to me and I had to use my breaks to accommodate their irrational behavior. I was amazed at the lack of consideration for the person behind them, they relied on my ability to respond quickly and adapt to the situation they presented. The person who sped past me again merged into the slow lane, passing someone, and then they passed the car which was originally ahead of me. They weaved between cars repeatedly not using their blinker. I saw both cars they passed brake when they merged in front of them. This behavior depends and expects the reaction time of the person they are passing to be good enough that they can recognize the situation and then react accordingly. This doesn’t take into account the fact that some people won’t be able to react as fast. They may be a new driver and are not confident in their ability to counter the positions they have been put in. Completely banking on others ability to react, they put others lives in danger by driving …show more content…
While driving down the highway I noticed I was getting very close to the person in front of me quickly. I checked my speedometer to see if maybe I was going just a tad too fast, I was going 74 miles per hour. I slowed down a bit to get to just 70 and I was still getting very close. I decided it would be best to pass them if they are moving so slow as that is very dangerous on the highway. I merged into the passing, passed them, and then merged back. I noticed while passing that the slow car only had one car ahead of them, and they were pretty far away. I don’t understand how unattentive you have to be while driving to not realize how slow you are going. Sure there may be times where you are going a bit slow but you always have to correct yourself. You should be paying attention to both the road and others around you, as well as your speedometer. Whether you’re going to fast or too slow you should always correct yourself to protect others lives on your

I and even members of my family are guilty of bumper to bumper driving. I've always heard that drivers should practice "defensive driving. " It makes sense, we all know how big a car is and how fast it can go, you can find all of those numbers somewhere on the car itself. We all know someone who has been in an accident, be it minor or major. When cars collide, it can be catastrophic and everyone knows it well. But somehow, at least for me, the idea of it actually all being real didn't happen until I had gotten into an accident where I was forced to deal with the consequences of even a minor collision.…

Sometimes, it could be a matter of life or death. When motorists hit their brakes in front of them, it can introduce more harm than good. Better to try to carefully move into an adjacent lane or maintain your pace and let them pass. People Who Insist Police Myths are Police Reality They've heard it all - an arrest is invalid if the cops don't read you your rights; you have to tell me you're a cop if I ask; speed traps are entrapment. Every once in a while, police will come across the know-it all, would-be lawyer who in fact knows nothing about policing, tactics, practices or the law.…

Despite decades of public service announcements about the dangers of speeding, the problem is alive and well today. A common reason for this is that it's easy to do and doesn't feel dangerous. Cars have powerful engines and have very smooth and quiet rides. When sitting on comfortable upholstery and surrounded by music, it's easy to forget that a wrong movement of the hand on the steering wheel can kill the occupants of the car. People also speed because of attitudes shaped by common myths.…

In 2010, nearly 10,000 people were killed due to drunk driving accidents, which accounts for close to thirty-one percent of motor vehicle fatalities in that year. When was the last time you heard anything about one’s alcohol consumption killing someone? Not frequently enough, in fact, there are an average of 115 people killed daily due to someone's choice to drink irresponsibly, but society fails to emphasize the impact drunk driving has on America. Alcohol is something seriously abused within society and the consequences that come with its maltreatment need stronger enforcement. The effects of drunk driving can do so much more than take someone’s life; it ripples throughout a community and causes havoc among hundreds of people.…

Say you were going the posted speed limit and there probably would have been enough time to slam on the brakes. Reckless and pointless speeding takes lives every day, and I would hate to have to feel that pain everyday of knowing I hurt someone by pure carelessness. The impact on a person in a crash at 60 mph is equivalent to falling from a four story building, while the impact at 100 mph equals falling from a twelve-story building. While you’re speeding, you have significantly less time to check your surroundings. When a driver is speeding, other drivers have a hard time telling how fast they are going.…
