Reflective Essay: If I Had To Get Over The Summer

Improved Essays
Over the Summer I personally thought that it was going to be hard to improve on something. But honestly if you try hard enough, it’s actually quite easy. My summer goal was to have both my left split and straddle by the time school started. It seemed like a fairly easy goal to keep up with. I accomplished part of my goal over the summer. If I had slightly more time I would’ve had gotten both parts. But what I had gone through with was being able to execute my left split. Even though it’s only half of my goal I’m still happy with it since I’m really close to having my straddle too. The reason that I wasn’t able to accomplish all of it was, I believe, because I wasn’t stretching as often as I should have. If I would’ve done that then I would be much more flexible than I am now. But that just shows me how much harder I need to and will work over the school year and next summer. Therefore, I had accomplished my left split and almost my straddle. Having the ability to do both splits and straddle with ease is important to my overall success as a dancer. This is because if I’m able to do those things will open the doors to new movement. It will allow me to do things I was restricted to in the past. An example would be if I was thinking of choreography to do and I wouldn’t have to say to …show more content…
One of them being the fact that I would like a more flexible back. It might take a while though because unlike some people, by back isn’t very flexible. I would achieve this by doing exercises that help loosen my back. An example would be the cobra stretch/pose. Another goal of mine would be to remember choreography better. I have the bad habit of not going over choreography until the next rehearsal which is very bad. Whether I practice it at home or watch a video of it, I need to get into the habit of practicing my dances at home rather than waiting until the next

Before coming to Coker, ballet vocabulary wasn’t as important to me as it is now. My old studio use to come up with our own words so that we could remember the move the way we saw it, so when I got here, I had to relearn everything. However, I knew the basic terms, but not the more complicated ones.…

The Grades Challenge Freshman year was a difficult year for my grades. I was failing a few classes and it seemed like the harder I focused on the percentage, the farther I got away from it. I talked to my teachers about how I could try to get my grades up and was simply told “you won’t get a better grade.” I was stuck with what I had is what I was told, and they ended up being right about that year. I was worried that maybe something was wrong; maybe I wasn’t as smart as I used to be.…

When I first came to class, it was truly frightening getting in front of people to move my body like I have never moved it before. Even the dance move to the number of syllables to our names was way scarier than it should have been. The amount of growth that I have personally made, and that everyone else has made is tremendous. Moving was much harder, much less fluid than it was at the end of the semester. The more and more that we practiced movements, such as the partner touch and blind movement exercise.…

Fitness and Goal Setting Knowledge Fitness and goal setting have been the main topic of conversation in this class. Whether we need to work on legs or arms today, or what we are going to do in the future. I learned that it is better to do quantity over quality when it comes to fitness workouts, and that it is always important to stretch and warm up your muscles before a workout to ensure you do not strain any muscles. For goal setting, I learned that if you pick a specific goal that you wish to achieve, like say to reach +10 in the fitness flexibility test, you can keep working towards that goal step by step, or in this case number by number, to reach your goals efficiently. When reaching towards a goal, you cannot just make it in one try…

No matter where you go or went to school, you always have some type of English class that forces you to write papers. These papers usually has to be a certain way or over a certain topic. To me that was a pretty big problem for me because I could do free writing easy, but when you tell me to write about something that I don 't have any interest in and I have to follow your “rules”, then I will just try to blow it off. I have always hated the way Professors and the world had this “image” of their version of a “perfect” essay. I always messed up on the rules like where to put my commas or semicolons, that to me is the hardest part to not have a run- on sentence.…
