Reflective Account On Effective Communication

In my enrolled nursing programme, there was a brifely introduction on fundamental nursing which focusing on primary care. In this registered nursing programme, the same subject with different roles and insight, my mindset was changed too. The concepts of human being, environment, health and nursing in fundamental nursing, were inspiring me. The human being, which included physical, psychological, social, spiritual areas and culural aspects of patients. How could I get these informationcompletely that was through communication skills. Effective communication should be provided to patients and other health professionals in order to build a genuine and meaningful relationship. In some cases, counselling skills should be used during conversation and observation. Counselling skills provided advanced insight into the needs, desires, fears and pressures and how we could help the patients with empathy. Sometimes, listening was more important to giving suggestions. The lessons were full of interactions with cases scenario that I really enjoyed. Through the practice opportunities in the lesson, I had confidence to use such skills in my working area.

From holistic to professional. The lesson of documentation, it was amazed to me. Being an enrolled nurse, medical diagnosis was usually used and I had no concept of nursing diagnosis. Indeed, medical diagnosis deals with disease or medical condition but nursing diagnosis deals with human response to actual or potential health problems and life processes. For example, we could not get the patient's condition on the medical diagnosis of cerebrovascular attack but the nursing diagnosis of Impaired verbal communication, risk for falls, interrupted family processes or powerlessness could describe how the patient suffering from the disease.
