Reflection On The Grand Prairie Boys And Girls Club

Improved Essays
People drive past the Grand Prairie Boys and Girls club everyday without blinking an eye and the building itself has no significance in their daily proceedings. But to me this such building has been monumental in my life and future. My club experience has been one of fond memories full of satisfaction, life long friends that I would call my brothers, and guidance towards my future as a young man. This club is not only a place for young men and women to stay off the streets it is a place for the youth to set the foundation for their lives. I have been going to the Grand Prairie Boys and Girls club since I was roughly twelve years old, I am eighteen now and it has been one of the best experiences i have had so far. Every summer me and my siblings

Most Improved Chapter Award Entering the school year, the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. sought to close the community engagement gap between the Hill and Greater Ithaca. The members of Alpha made it their goal to serve as role models for young children from minority backgrounds living in the more urban areas. The Chapter in collaboration with Southside Community Center, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Black Students United organized a holiday festival to create a space for young boys and girls of color in Ithaca to be able to interact and celebrate the spirit of the holidays with students at Cornell. Meaningful connections were made simply by delighting together in arts and crafts.…

I was in cub scouts when I was little and I have a lot of pretty good memories from it. I started cub scouts in 1st grade when I was six years old and was in it until the beginning of third grade when I was eight years old. I was in two different, “packs,” when I was in cub scouts one in Illinois and one in Washington state. In Illinois I was a tiger scout which is also the lowest rank in cub scouts. I competed in my first pine wood derby that year…

At first, I was hesitant to join this club, but after the first meeting, I loved it. We took a field trip to volunteer at the Boys and Girls Club of Milwaukee. In addition, we created another club titled Hand and Paw to take a stand and to help the community like we do in Leadership and Service club, however, this club is specifically to help animals. I enjoy now taking part in these activities because I feel I make a beneficial impact in the world. From reading to a child, to earning a dollar to help the humane society, I learned that I feel the most excitement when I make an impact on other’s lives.…

After doing tons of reach on the Boys & Girls Club of America I am convinced that this organization is one that goes through lots of training and preparation to get the right people ready to be apart of the legacy they are creating for our future generations. Being a former member and employee of the company I can say from my personal experience this company will do whatever it takes to make sure they have an eye for finding qualified, caring, professionals that love to work with children to help show these kids that someone cares about their future and is willing to invest time and energy on the job to do it. Majority of the Boys & Girls Clubs have all faced a common issue, a lack in the leadership department. Many of the current leaders or seasoned leaders are at a point where retirement is their next step in life and no longer have to work anymore, which has caused a gap in leadership with the new upcoming leaders of the organization.…

So, Sarah and I decided that in our sophomore year, we would join at least two clubs. We joined the Club for the Integration of the Arts together. It is a club that runs our school’s coffeehouses, as well as the yearly opening of the school’s literary magazine. It was a good first club to join – great people, and really fun activities, but nothing that required work…

I decided that I would take leadership roles throughout high school in order to help serve the less fortunate. KEY Club, a service and fundraising club, became my focus, and I travelled up the ranks to become the school’s external affairs manager and the service committee chair of the Eastern Canada District. As I introduced more extra-curricular activities into my life, organization became more important -- and I was shocked to see how much it helped me save…

Being the younger sibling you are always forced to do the things that your older siblings do, or you want to be like them so you do it too. My older sister LeAnn has always been the smart one, so i have always tried to match her. In my attempts in doing that I have played softball and basketball both of which I hated, they just weren't for me. I finally found something that I enjoyed that she had done in that we both could talk about our accomplishments. The activity that I found was FFA she had been an officer her junior and her senior year of high school.…

This year has been my first year participating in Global Girls and I can, without hesitation, say that several of the conversations held during the meetings have been some of the most honest, crisp discussions I have taken a part in. My personal belief in the great significance of these kinds of conversations is one of the driving factors for my interest in being co head of Global Girls. If selected as co-head, I will really focus on creating more of these organic conversations that speak about the core of an issue. The importance of brisk, articulate conversations was really emphasized to me during my participation in the Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) in December of last year. I was chosen, along with four other Brearey girls, to go to this conference in Atlanta, Georgia and I had the privilege of engaging in conversations with teenagers from around the country about different social…

Girl Scouts was a big part of my life when I was young and it really helped prepare me for the future in some ways. I learned a lot about responsibility during our famous cookie sales. When we did our booth sales I got a lot of practice trying to make good sales. I was often told that I would make a great saleswoman which is a great skill to have when looking for a job. The camping trips helped me learn a little more about independence, responsibility, and respect.…

Promotion: According to the National Outcomes Report in 2014, kids from the Boys and Girls Club of America demonstrate more success in both academic and social settings compared to non-club members. The population of the members is also increasing due to their outstanding community outreach projects such as volunteering. Therefore, Boys and Girls Club should use their funding to develop more community projects that help the neighborhood and also publishing success stories of the members in…

Over time, the club expanded as numerous of my peers started to join and opened up about their depression, anxiety, broken homes, suicide attempts, etc. Myself as well as the President of the club were able to create a loving, cheerful, and safe environment for every single person who stepped into the room, we comforted, encouraged, and provided the help they needed. In G213, we were able to provide a home to those who felt like they never had one before. Even though I didn’t have a tremendous influence on the lives of 3000 kids who attended my school, I was able to have an influence on the lives of those 30 kids who without my help would be stuck in their never-ending cycle of loneliness and depression. My impact on Neshaminy High School has been and always will be in room…

If someone is silent: • Use the technique of doing “pair shares” instead of direct questions to individuals. • Have each person share, “popcorn” around the room, so everyone is expected to participate. • When using fictional examples to illustrate points, use this person’s name as part of the positive example. This can draw a person in and make them feel included. Be sure to never use them in a negative aspect.…
