The classroom environment has a very positive effect on student learning and instruction. The classroom itself is well organized and free of clutter. All of the materials for the lesson were prepared beforehand and were easily accessible to students. This lesson was an introduction to informational writing, so it will not be used as a major assessment of students ability/understanding. The goal of this lesson was to give me, the teacher, a better understanding of the students writing abilities so that I can focus in on the individual/whole group needs of the students in my class. Later in the unit, students will receive written feedback and suggestion on how to improve their informational writing.
To formally assess student learning, I observed students, made observations notes, and I had students work independently to generate/write their own fact about lions. The results of my assessment were as follows: thirteen students were successful in copying a fact from the fact chart onto their own sticky note, two students wrote their own fact and they used invented spelling to spell tricky words, and the other seven students either did not finish writing their fact or their writing was not
