First, I have learned that encouragement and motivation can be profound in a student’s success. The mindset and personality of the student plays a crucial role in how they learn and how we need to teach. I have learned that a bad day can negatively affect assessment in a huge way. I also witnessed the importance of utilizing multiple forms of assessment to gain a better understanding of student knowledge and learning. It might also be helpful for some students, if teachers are intuitive about their students’ needs. Perhaps we can change the times of day for assessing. Maybe assessing on different days of the week can be beneficial. Every stud Just keeping in mind that every student is unique and so many different factors can affect their assessment performance. I gained knowledge in differentiating and individualizing instruction as I formulated lessons specific to this student. I learned that individualizing instruction for a student who is very low, can be extremely difficult. It is often frustrating to feel like you have tried everything you can think of to help the student, but nothing seems to be working. I was not expecting the assessments to be as difficult to interpret as they were. This experience gave me some wonderful insight that I am grateful for. I believe I will be a better educator because of the experiences I have had with Shunnya this semester. I hope I get a call from Shunnya one day, telling me that she is pursuing her dreams of being an elementary school teacher! I hope that I made a difference in her education in some small way!
