Externship Reflection

Improved Essays
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of the present memo is to reflect on my performance at my externship with the Navy JAG Corps, in the first half of the spring 2017 semester. It is to discuss any difficulties and challenges I am facing, and any hopes for the second half of the semester. It is also to get candid feedback about my performance so that I can improve and grow as a lawyer.
MY PERCEPTION OF THE STRENTHS AND WEAKNESSES OF MY PERFORMANCE
I think that my positive behaviors or “strengths” are a willingness to do anything that is asked of me, arrival on time at my externship site, and prompt attendance of meetings. I note my “strengths with the caveat that I see certain characteristics as being inherent to most people entering the legal

I have had an introduction to the NJP and ADSEP processes and hopefully now I can actually be useful. I would like to participate in any projects related to legal writing and would like to improve my skill at legal writing. I would be delighted to engage in any projects where I could improve my legal research skills. I would like to improve my ability to understand how to actually prep for an ADSEP board. I would like to learn the who, how and when of the process of contacting people.
PROGRESS TOWARDS GOALS FOR MY EXTERNSHIP
I feel that basically I am on track meet the goals I described in the initial learning goals memo. I feel that I have been getting a good introduction to military law and what being a JAG, at least at one command, would be like. I have had the opportunity to obtain exposure to a wide range of activities. Looking forward to the second half of the semester, I would like to be further challenged with assignments that push me to engage in broad range of skills.
I would like to add one goal that was not in my initial goals memo. If possible, I would like to participate in an ADSEP board from beginning to end. I would enjoy the opportunity to ask questions of a witness with another attorney present, of course. I know I was scheduled to participate with an ADSEP, but due to rescheduling during spring break I cannot attend the initial one

I learned how to use search features in a cost efficient manner and locate journals, codes, cases, and administrative rules to draft memorandums and IRAC cases. As a result, I was able to apply the basic legal writing skills and traditional research methods learned the previous term, as well as enhance my understanding of how to combine these methods effectively in a law firm setting. Furthermore, I completed all the MCLE-approved workshops offered through the program regarding e-discovery and how to use the Trial Director software to try cases in an appealing and effective manner. All the skills and knowledge acquired through this program enabled me to obtain a job with the attorney who taught these workshops and work on thousands of electronically produced documents in a high-profile class action case in…

In the Strengths Finder survey, my five greatest strengths are adaptability, harmony, responsibility, consistency and an includer (Gallup, 2010). I realized that I had some of those strengths but some of those are new to me. The strength that has always stood out to me that I knew about was responsibility. The other four, I guess I have developed along the way. As I sit and think about my results of my test.…

After reading a few chapters of Strengths Quest, I was instructed to participate in the Strengths Finder assessment (Anderson, Clifton, & Schreiner, 2006). This 30 minute assessment was an interesting tool that pointed out my greatest strengths. It also provided a detailed description of what having those strengths mean and examples of how they are prominent in a person 's life. After taking the StrengthsFinder survey, I discovered that my five dominant strengths are empathy, harmony, consistency, relator, and restorative.…

Upon completing the StrengthsFinder survey, it is determined my 5 greatest strengths are the learner, achiever, competition, strategic, and relator, all of which I expected (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006). While reading the text I examined the various themes of different strengths, relating closely to the 5 assigned by the survey, I am impressed by how well the explanations were written in the book, Strengths Quest Second Edition. The text in correlation with the materials provided from the StrengthsFinder survey brought forth meaning and depth into finding out exactly the type of person I am. Learning is listed as my top strength in the survey (Clifton, Anderson, & Schreiner, 2006). I believe I have used that trait extensively throughout…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

English 219 was my first college level English course, and through attending and completing all of the assignments I have learned many skills that I believe will greatly help me in my future courses in college. Next semester I am enrolled in English 220, and after having taken this course I feel substantially better about continuing on with English courses at a college level. It has helped me to become more confident in my writing skills and provided me with an excellent basis for me to continue on with next semester, and throughout the rest of my schooling experience. Throughout this class I have learned many things, but perhaps the most important is the steps to writing an essay, and the planning options.…

Introduction Throughout the past few weeks, communication in a fast food workplace was recorded and analysed. This report will summarise the experiences had and reflect on the interactions between multiple types of customers, co-workers and myself that occurred over the past work shifts. Summary These interactions all occurred in a fast food restaurant in the middle of a food court in a local shopping centre and usually only last up to 5 minutes when dealing with customers. Over the course of two 8-hour shifts on alternating weekends I came into contact with many different groups of people ranging in gender and age in my workplace, mainly my co-workers, different types of customers and my boss or manager.…
