Adult Health III Reflective Journal 5
This was the final week of critical care clinical and my last clinical as a nursing student. This was so bitter sweet. I was in the critical care unit and I followed a nurse who truly enjoyed teaching and explaining her care interventions! She had an optimistic outlook observed and assisted me in patient care. All the best nurses pour their hearts into patient care. In the critical care setting, nurses care for the sickest of patients. As a nursing student I appreciate all the autonomy and trust that I was given. I had my nurse with me during all of my patient care, but she trusted me to participate in ventilator care for our patient.
My goal for this clinical was to push myself to engage in patient care

She believes that creating a bond with her patients is one of the most important factors in the healing process. As someone who is pursuing a career in healthcare, I can appreciate where Alore is coming from. Hearing first-hand accounts about how a doctor or therapist makes a breakthrough with their patients once they connect with them on a personal level goes to show that this outlook is effective. The ICU nurse also believes in doing “what you want to do” (Isay 141). One needs to have passion for their work, no matter how insignificant or enormous the job may be.…

This week at clinical I had a Gyn patient for two days and a new mom and baby on the second clinical day. My patient that had on Tuesday with the hysterectomy was a very quiet and kind lady who was recovering very well from her surgery. During and after her cares we were able to connect through learning about her family she grew up with, her family she had grown of her own and about her children and other interests of hers. It made me feel good being able to own the moment through connecting with my patient that also made collaborating and working as a team much easier throughout the day to complete the needed tasks. Another aspect of making the shift go very smoothly was working with Brenda, I enjoyed collaborating with her as she is fast-paced…

There are many types heroes some are strong, some are kind, and others are intelligent. However, all heroes are based on an idea, from hope to inspiration and this allows a group of people to be heroes when they work towards a common goal. To be sincere I feel a little nervous getting into preceptorship, the final step of practice in the nursing program; especially that I will be without my fellow students to work with, share experiences and support each other. On the other hand, I am looking forward to the experience as this will challenge me to work independently, critically think through situations and enhance my ability to implement appropriate interventions and increase confidence in my practice. I am thankful to the knowledgeable nurse on unit 29, who showed professionalism in their practice and worked as a team to meet patients’ health care demands/needs. I was challenged to take responsibility for my own learning and productivity by being more critical and attentive to every detail. I feel more prepared mentally and physically on how to respond to certain situations and not to take things for granted.…
