I like the analogy of the brain as plastic with brain plasticity and how a memory can help shape it, and it will keep its shape. It is useful in thinking about memory as a “network of associations,” and memories are connected with other familiar things. This is why it is important as an educator to try to like lessons to things that our students can associate with so they will have a better understanding. One thing that I really didn’t know about that the video went over was how the brain processes language on the left side of the brain, and that the hearing, reading, understanding, and output of language are all connected. Through this process, it is easier to see how there can be disconnections if one of the parts is having trouble. The importance of sleep in making sense of the information throughout the day was also …show more content…
This system can be very useful in helping students remember lessons, and can also help teachers remember things as well, like learning the name of students quickly. There were different methods of mnemonics that the chapter went over. There is the loci method, which can help by associating things to a familiar place in where they will be remembered by thinking of that place. Another is the acronym method, which makes a word in which each letter is associated to a different word. There is also chain mnemonics, where the first thing is associated to second thing and then the third and so on. The last one that was gone over is the keyword method which associates something with n image or concepts or words that sound the same. All of these methods deal with association, and as a future teacher, we want to have our students associate lessons to something that is meaningful to them so that they will remember it. One difficulty is making sure that the associates are useful to them because what may be an easy association to us, may not be for that particular
