This letter talk about solitude and how it is important to have it, but it is usually hated. It talks about finding solitude as when we where kids and are parents where busy with grown up things. I to this day still love my solitude from people. I have always found peace when I’m in my own mind for hours on end. When I was in high school I would get on my long board and just ride for hours. While I was long boarding I would just be in my mind alone to my own thoughts. I think it is a great skill and tool to have. To be able to go into your mind and leave everything else out brings peace to me. I can finally take a break from the crazy day and just be with my self. “I never found a companion that was so companionable as solitude.” Through my experience with transcendentalism, your words, Thoreau had a greater significance to me. The days in which I experimented, I discovered the true meaning of solitude through transcendentalism. Solitude serves as a canvas that we are supposed to paint our feelings and emotions on to find our inner peace. Unfortunately, in today’s society we are so busy being influenced by technology and social media that we can’t find our inner peace; we can’t paint our own canvas.…

In my junior year, I switched my art course from modern dance to visual arts, and I have truly benefited from this change. While I do still participate in dance, visual art has always been a passion of mine, and since receiving professional instruction, I have learned the true potential of my work. When I began studying art, I was fascinated by digital and traditional illustration; comic books, animated movies, and children’s books have always interested me, and I wanted to try my hand at this work. However, I was the only student pursuing this type of art, and was subsequently required to do a lot of research on my own. Unfortunately, as I did my individual search to find inspiration, I noticed a distinct lack of popular art that portrayed people of color at all, especially in a classical, beautiful way.…

Freshman year, I was painfully shy and I built a persona of a tortured artist to cope with the fact that I felt weird and ostracized. Being an outsider feels better when it’s a choice, and it was easy to make myself feel special when what everyone else was talking about just didn’t “speak to me.” Art has always been important to me, but while wallowing in the teen angst, I expected that one must suffer to be considered a true artist. In cultivating that image, I reacted to what should have been a wonderful time—homecoming, pep rallies—with bitter suppression. From the life trajectory of legends like Vincent van Gogh, I deduced that the price to pay for artistic brilliance was an existence of misery.…
