The purpose of this project is to exam my diet and discuss the diet based on what I have learned in class. Throughout the process, I understood more about healthy eating and how the way we eat affect our body and overall health. Being able to go in depth with my diet has changed the way I think about what I consume daily.
The first thing I notice about my diet is the Dietary Reference Intake (DRI), intake vs. goals. What I saw was an adequate amount of protein, Vitamin A, and Vitamin C intake. They were all over 150%. What I learned in classes is that Vitamin A helps with vision, growth and repair of bone tissues. They also help with hormone synthesis and acts as antioxidant in the form of beta-carotene (183). The last large amount of intake I consumed was Vitamin C. Vitamin C is water-soluble vitamin. The type of food I consumed for nutrient Vitamin C are citrus fruits and dark green vegetables. Vitamin C helps heal wounds and helps body absorb iron. Too much intake may cause abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and risks of kidney stones (182). Although. I consumed these nutrients more than DRI, I also lacked some nutrients that was less than 75%. The top three was total fat, Vitamin D, and Vitamin B12. The fats I consumed was from grilled chicken, margarine, and fast food. Vitamin D is fat soluble, and the food I consumed with Vitamin D are eggs, and fish. Vitamin B12 nutrient I consumed mostly are grilled chicken and eggs. All these areas are low because of my eating habits. What I learned about the extra intake of vitamins is that they will be flushed out of the system. I have food tolerance and I tend to avoid the dairy group and wheat products.
