Reflection Memo on Class Simulation for group 2
On site for group 2 we all agreed on the proposed goal of increasing the desirability of living on the site. After streamlining all our ideas and requirements we agreed to develop the site and to reserve some land for the following programs according to their hierarchy after simulation
• Storm Water
• Fitness Health Park
• Affordable Housing
• Falcon Sanctuary
Storm Water
Storm water treatment dominated our discussion and became our first choice since it was in the city dwellings and storm water retention was something that we cannot ignore for the fact that it can destroy dwellings and therefore the dwellings must be protected no matter what. We therefore allocated a chunk of our proposed sites to storm water retention to make our site livable.
Fitness Health Park
Fitness Park followed on the list of priority because we wanted to have a neighborhood where health and safety were stressed very strongly.
Affordable Housing
Affordable housing was our third choice. Since we were

Housing programs are very crucial for low-income people and if these people cannot get the support they need, many people will end up on the streets with no where to go. Housing programs are striving for insufficient funding at the federal, state, and local levels. One program that is dealing with budget cuts is the Housing Choice Voucher Program, which means outstandingly reduced resources in Sacramento. A major loss to the Sacramento community was the ending of the Homelessness Prevention & Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Sacramento’s HPRP focused on rapidly transitioning households out of homelessness and preventing at-risk households from entering homelessness” (Sacramento Steps…

Every year California Governor Jerry Brown along with other state employees meet to evaluate the accretion of winter and how spring runoff may help irrigated agriculture. The percentage of snow has been decreasing each year. A press conference was held to inform the public of Governor Brown’s executive decision to restrict urban water use by twenty-five percent. I attended the Bertha Strong Stroke Simulation event on March 1, 2016, at the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus held at the Mercado building. I had attended this event in the past thought it would be interesting to compare my experiences. I was surprised to find that my first comparison would be the registration and receipt of materials needed to prepare for the event. It may have been due to familiarity with the process, but the current process seemed more coordinated. The registration process was different; it seems as though the old system had some issues as it has been changed slightly.…

In urban areas, roads, sidewalks, roofs, and other impervious surfaces prevent water from permeating into the ground. This means that there is an increased likelihood of flooding during storms. To counteract this, cities use storm sewer systems. While some older sewer systems combine both sanitary and storm sewage, such as Washington D.C.’s, most cities have separate sewer systems (“History of the Sewer System). In separate sewer systems, the sanitary sewage is sent to a plant to be treated while the stormwater is sent straight into the receiving waterbody without treatment (“Storm vs. Sanitary Sewer”).…

Today at Simulation Lab I performed health history on a patient. Firstly, I commenced by preparing myself for the interview. Although I was nervous, as a nurse I had to be confident and prepare myself mentally and kept an open mind to meet the patient. In addition to preparing myself, I prepared the environment, making sure seating and arrangement was in place and the room was comfortable and private. Having done this, I utilized Florence Nightingale’s theory of environmental need.…

New developments and businesses, large corporations, and private institutions are what gentrifying neighborhoods attract. For these reasons, housing demand goes up in the area. This denotes that affordable housing would be hard to achieve since property value rises. Richard Florida explains in his article, “This Is What Happens After A Neighborhood Gets Gentrified,” how local residents “may feel pressured to move to more affordable locations,” (Florida 9). Usually, these businesses will bring in some conveniences such as beautified environment, more security, and money to the community, but they will also drive away the neighborhood’s local inhabitants.…
