During my first semester of college I have learned a lot of information. Though, one of the most important things I learned was better writing techniques. From the first assignment to now, there has been a lot of improvement in my writing skills. These skills will help me in the future, not just in other writing courses but in all of my courses. In my high school English courses we wrote persuasive essays, which are similar to argumentative essays, but not identical. When writing the argument about plagiarism essay, I had to learn to effectively state an opposing argument. Having to do this guided me in having the ability to refer to any opposing statements the other person may have and be able to make a logical comeback to what they 're saying. Also, reading the book “They Say, I Say” gave me advice and information that helped me in my essay. This advice stated different ways to effectively outline your arguments and how to let readers know when they are reading your opinion versus the other person 's opinion. This information and ability will be valuable for me throughout the rest of my life, not just in my college

Another writing skill that has improved my writing is remembering the audience, or, making sure that the essay would make sense to a random person who knows nothing about the topic it addresses. I also intend to intern at one of the research labs at the University. If I stay on this path, writing skills will be very useful to writing publishable research papers. Journals may reject papers that are not structured in a logical and understandable way. As I have been typing this essay though I have come to realize that I don’t like writing in the slightest other than for practice, it is too time consuming and it bores me. The part of writing that I seem to struggle with is writing itself. This is due to the fact that I don’t have much to say and once I have finished what I actually have to say I have trouble with coming up with more. The only part of writing that I would say that I excel at is the revision process. I have one writing goal, that being to have better grammar, other goals are financial.…
