In the medical field where I wish to work being conscious of the struggles of the LGBTQ will help me be understanding towards my patients. I don’t want them to feel uncomfortable when they are around me. I want them to know that I will treat them without any judgment of biases. It is true that each patient is unique but at the end of the day each patient is also a human being who is entitled to access to equal healthcare. I remember reading how in some medical schools they don’t offer any courses on how to treat LGBTQ community members. In medical school they are often only taught how to respond to HIV and that is it. The textbook was easy to follow and very interesting. It was very informative and still provided personal narratives within the text. This course has taught me the importance of being mindful of others’ opinion. Conflict can arise at any given moment when two sides with clashing opinions interact. You have to be respectful of others opinion and must express your own in a respectful manner. It is ok to have your own opinion you don’t have to agree with everything, but you should be mindful of others’ beliefs.
