Both teachers use a technique that encourages the students to reach their monthly accelerated reader goal; if the students reach their goal, they are rewarded a movie day at the end of each month. Mr. Dohrmann and Mrs. Church also hand out key cards when students are on their best behavior. Each student that receives a key card gets their name put into a drawing for a chance to win a prize. Also, in Mrs. Church’s class the students are in rows, so she gives points to the rows that are ready to work and are quiet when doing class work. At the end of the week, the students in the row with the most points receive a prize, such as a pencil, candy or stickers, in contrast to Mr. Dohrmann, who rewards students with positive behavior with particular tasks, such as handing out papers and running errands. In both classrooms, these motivation methods work well with the student. The techniques used for motivation help the students set goals for themselves, and when students see that other classmates are getting rewarded for positive behavior, they will be motivated to do equally as
