A study was done by the International Association of Police Chiefs and in the study they found out that seven out of ten of the top issues that is important to the police involved ethics and integrity (Martin, 2011). To try and reduce corruption it will be good to have more ethics classes for officers. The study also showed that 80.3% of law enforcement agencies that took part in the survey stated that have resources that help train those to teach an ethical class (Martin, 2011). Then 72% of them stated they give some additional training in ethics outside of the academy, but they all have stated that officers learned ethics in the academy (Martin, 2011). There should be an automatic investigation if there is any allegations of corruption (Newburn & Webb, 1999). A good way to monitor corruption before it happens or after is that every officer is reevaluated after some years to check their mind state because it could have change since when they first started (McCafferty & McCafferty, 1998). Even though when we enter the police academy our background history, I think there should be another after some just make sure nothing just escape through. Not only do we look at the department evaluation of one another, but also citizens complaints because this can also give one behavior when they are on the streets (McCafferty & McCafferty, 1998). Also having two evaluation in place can help in investigation on whether or not corruption is taken place.
The police culture is important in the battle to prevent corruption. There has been test done by senior officers to test new recruits ethics ( Martin, 2011). The must popular that is used stated by the FBI is the accepting of a free coffee. This can shine a light to maybe a future of corruption, but that is only a assumption.
