Once I read our assignment for this paper I knew who I would want to write about, The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I have written about them already once for this class in one of our discussion boards, I believe for our favorite song. I have described them as my favorite band and in some ways I believe that that is true but also I believe that I treasure them so much because I have held onto for the longest amount of time as a band that I listen to and enjoy. I have also taken time over the years to discover interesting facts about them and read memoirs and write ups about them as a band and mainly the lead singer Anthony Kedis, as he has lead a fascinating and complicated life. This album was not a commercial hit but began to help the band begin the first crucial step of any artist, growing a fan base. They would fine that their typical fan base would be college students as many college radio stations embraced the band’s sound. They have put out nine studio albums and have gone through at times what seems like a revolving door of members, with the founding members Kedis and Flea remaining intact. None of the founding members have had any formal education with music, they grew up in the late 1960’s and 1970’s and I feel that this was an education in music itself. Surrounded by a culture who loved and embraced music pushed them to pursue it. Their earlier albums had a heavy funk influence. The Red hot Chili Peppers is written entirely by Kedis since the band’s forming in 1983. The typical process is for Kedis to write lyrics first and then for the band to go back and write music to those lyrics, so they use the second
