Prince Prospero was depicted to be a very “happy and dauntless and sagacious” man as he roamed his palace, without a care in the world (Poe). This makes you think about how different your life is to Prince Prospero. When compared to the characters in “Akua Nuten” the selfish prince comes out on top as the character’s traits are not portrayed through their actions as much and there is very little action or dialogue. The only hint we are given as to how Kakatso feels is when “[Kakatso] was still undecided” about his intruders, the whites (Theriault 127). In “there will come soft rains,” there was a lack of characters, dialogue, or action. The only character was the house, commonly known to say the time and actions such as “Tick-tock, seven o'clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o'clock!” (Bradbury 1). With the lack of dialogue or conflict in this story, it seemed a little childish and does not deserve a place on the same level as “Masque of the Red Death.” The characters in “Masque of the Red Death” have proven to be the superior characters over the boring, monotonous characters in the other two short
