The low Red blood cells, hematocrit, and hemoglobin both share a significant connection to the symptoms. Harold Red blood cells in which he is producing are large and low numbered. There are many different types of anemia. Which specific type of anemia is Harold suffering from? Beginning with the peripheral blood smear, describe the key pieces of evidence you’ve used to draw this conclusion. Harold is suffering from pernicious anemia. Pernicious Anemia is caused by reduced acceptance of vitamin B12 in the body, which results in a lack of intrinsic factor that is formed by stomach mucosa. This causes Harold gastritis to damage him. “Low levels of B12 can be used to explain why fewer, but abnormally large, red blood cells can be seen on the peripheral blood smear”. Red blood cells need vitamin B12 to develop normally. This does not mean they will not grow; they just will not grow regularly as needed. The CBC results show that Harold do not have a normal number of Red blood cells , which mean the volume of the Red blood cells he produce is in elevation.
