Hypertension also known as high blood pressure is the disease of the cardiovascular system and the leading cause of death. African Americans. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), blacks have a higher rate of suffering from hypertension compared to their white counterpart. A research done by CDC has shown that about 43.0% of men and 45.7% women are hypertensive. Again, hypertension is not infectious but has been known as a “silent killer” disease (CDC). In this case, many Africans has been exposed to the disease without knowing it. This is the reason why secondary prevention of hypertension is essential to help individuals at risk to maintain a stable and healthy status.
Furthermore, it is important to note many factors that have contributed to the rise of hypertension disease in African Americans .For example, psychological stress, and risky lifestyle behavior and telomere dysfunction (Duraimani et al, 2015). It is also important to know that hypertension can be under control to prevent further damage.
