Vincent Rue, Ph.D., wrote that the men in the family tend to feel grief, but not to show it openly as to what Rue says. Also, Rue states that men may have a quick and fast response and it is hard for the men to isolate themselves from their partner even though they may feel anger. It is normal for them to immediately have a reaction. Marital issues also has a negative effect on families. According to Elizabeth Cassidy, forty and fifty percent of couples end up divorcing after abortion. Mostly, for the younger women, it is them who end their relationships because they may have been the main person who promoted the abortion. The mothers want to protect their daughters as well. The article mentions that 48% of the women in relationships with her partner is changed in some way by abortion. Lastly, communication problems is a negative effect on families. Because the woman has the final say to have an abortion, it creates an unbalanced communication because she can choose whether or not to include the man (Reisser). Another issue with communication is that society does not grief with the couple. At the end of the abortion, the couple is left with confusion and stress and without the community’s help (Reisser).
