Reality theory focuses on problem solving and making better choices in order to meet the goal. Reality Theory was developed by William Glasser. William Glasser developed reality theory to focus on the current problem and not in the past problem. Glasser also believed that an individual should make changes of their own behavior instead of changing other’s people behavior. According to Murdock (2014) states, “RT counselors are interested in helping their clients make better choices that are helpful to them and don’t interfere with or hurt others. Ultimately, the reality therapist teaches the client to reconnect in the critical relationship(s) central to the client’s discomfort or to establish new, more satisfying relationships. Thus, the client learns to take responsibility for his choices and make more effective choices that will reestablish effective, satisfying relationships—more broadly, to make choices that better satisfy their needs. ” (pg., 365) So, the strategies that are being used in reality theory can be used with other counseling theories because if focus on the interested of the client to make better choices in life.
