The first topic brought to like by Dr. Weil was the relation of fructose in sweet things we eat. According to the presentation, total sugar intake has dramatically increased in the last 160 years and it is no coincidence that obesity has followed suit. Weil continues to discuss eating habits and patterns that have changed and the best part of the whole video I believe was when he discussed egg consumption. Although an average large-sized egg has approximately 185 mg of Cholesterol, 62% DV based on a 2,000 calorie diet (American Egg Board, 2016), it is filled with healthy fats and essential fatty acids. That doesn’t mean go eat one dozen eggs because they’re good for you, but as Dr. Weil stressed in the video multiple times, moderation is key.
A very interesting topic that I was unaware of was discussed about inflammation. Dr. Weil described it in the following way:
“Inflammation is the cornerstone of the body’s healing response, it’s the way that the body gets more nourishment and immune activity when it’s under attack… It’s important to stay where it needs to stay and end where it needs to end.”
Dr. Weil talked about most Americans living life eating processed foods high in bad fats, the wrong kinds of carbohydrates, essentially allowing us to live in a constant semi-inflamed state. This in turn results in things like coronary artery disease due to inflammation of the coronary artery, cancers due to inflammation and proliferation of cells which results in more chances for cells to mutate and cause malignancy, as well as Alzheimer’s being caused by inflammation of the
