In the book “Freakonomics” the authors Levitt and Dubner discuss Real-Estate and how agents benefit more than the client. The real-estate topic provides more convincing evidence that people are only inspired to do things based on incentives. The authors work to prove that realtors are self-motivated people, and are not actually helping people. Real-estate agents are professionals with more information than the client. They know how to manipulate a person to make a decision that will benefit the agent needs more.…

    Shithead Chapter Summary

Why does Mr. Steven Levitt and Stephen Dunbner not like realtors? In a book filled with so many interesting questions, this would be the one I would ask the authors directly. This book by economist Steven D. Levitt, co-authored with Stephen J. Dubner, fuses together stories, anecdotes, data analyses, and discussions of unusually linked phenomena as it ask its readers to think more critically about the things that occur in everyday life. Things like how birth control has stemmed the crime rate, or how being named Shithead will decrease your job prospects, and ever so important, why you are being cheated by your real-estate agent. The insightful and provocative look of how these things are linked make this one of my favorite reads in a while.…

All men are equal, but their circumstances are not. America bears an ugly history of racial segregation in cities, mostly due to the practice of redlining. Lending companies and banks withhold mortgages and other loans from people who live in neighborhoods of certain ethnic makeups. In a perfect world, arbitrary factors such as race would not affect someone’s ability to buy a home. Unfortunately, we do not live in a perfect world.…

The real estate scene in Houston, Texas was shook to its core from 1981 to 1984 when people suddenly began moving away. Within three years, 210,000 people had left the city, causing retail real estate and housing prices to plummet in response to the lack of renters and buyers. Houston later recovered by becoming the nation's energy capital, drawing residents back, and boosting up the real estate market. Today, Houston is no longer the single-industry town it once was, keeping the real estate market not only stable, but thriving. A town that re-invented itself from the energy-only industry it was in the past, to a city that estimates to create 60,000 to 70,000 new jobs each year, happened because of innovative leaders and real estate investors with big visions for the city.…
