Parents, guardians, or just older generations think rap and hip-hop are bad for you gut the younger generations don’t think anything of it and believe that it’s just another genre of music. Parents talk about how the music lyrics and the videos all include explicit content and show dangerous lifestyles. Teens like this music, especially the ones in poor communities because often the artist come from places like them and believe that rap is the way to get out of there and have the best life. But overall it’s a way for many people to connect to each other and socialize. But rap can show what the problems are for adults and show them what they have to face with. They figured that if they are all listening to this music they could somehow bring it to school and learn from it. Many artists try to be as influential as possible and consider themselves educators. The lyrics of the songs have imagery and metaphors and could also teach irony, tone, and point of view. It also could be analyzed for theme, plot and character development. They brought in different poems and songs to try and analyze it and find different things that will help write and become a better writer. They were trying to focus on how to work in groups, give good public presentations, help develop note-taking skills from presentations/lectures and finally help prepare them for different types of poetry.
