Schmidt and I enjoy each other’s company with some tea without sugar. He goes to the refrigerator to get some cream Squeak! His prosthetic leg needs cranking up again. He developed muscular dystrophy in his right leg after getting into a car accident.
“Travis you don’t know how many days and nights I’ve prayed to have my leg back. I can’t do the things I used to do from dribbling the basketball around to skiing the slopes in St. Bart’s. I’m a total wreck! I didn’t ask for any of this! Why do good people suffer? Why is it that no matter how hard you try in life you equally fall hard? Why is it that as humans we try to make a right a wrong and a wrong a right?” I’ve never heard Schmidt talk this way before, at least not to me. He hates talking about it because it’s awkward for him so I always move on to a new subject. He is rather withdrawn now, but don’t get me wrong, he was a party animal with his all day and all night heading into the early morning Palooza’s. The police showed up saying it got so bad that the neighbors complained he was a public nuisance. For instance, one time I saw people propelling themselves into the air with fire extinguishers! Fire extinguishers! Anyways, that was a nice brisk walk down memory
