Raising Minimum Wage In The United States

As the years go by, we realize that raising the minimum wage is a constant issue many people are struggling with, especially those in the fast food industry and organized labor. There are several groups around the United States who are trying to convert this idea to a reality. The reality is that the topic of minimum wage never gets to the hands off congress. Since according to the article “5 facts about the minimum wage” claims only “Large majorities of Democrats (90%) and independents (71%) said they favored such an increase, Republicans were more evenly split (53% in favor and 43% opposed).” It is very difficult for minimum wage to be passed when not even the whole government agrees with this. Each states has their own set minimum wage, and it varies from state to state and city. Minimum wage in different states can vary from $7.50 an hour to 9.47 an hour. These wages are expected to increase as the years go by to some cities even to $15.00 an hour. The fourth fact is about 30% of workers who get paid by hour, and those who are not working for their own business, are working for a wage that is almost minimum wage. Which means they are gaining a bit more than minimum wage. The workers are typically young workers, which the majority is white females, and most of the time these workers did get a higher education. Finally the fifth facts is the restaurants or fast-food industry is the best employer to have workers who have a bit higher pay than minimum wage. A key point is that people who are in this industry end up getting a higher gross pay, since they receive tips, which increases their pay.
