The ideals, morals, or ethics that we choose to believe in molds our identity, our true selves. I lived most of my life in Philippines. It is there that I learned most of the ideals I carry now. When I was around six years old, I used to struggle in school. Both my parents were busy at work and my older brother was always with his friends. I couldn’t ask anyone in our household for help when I don’t know how to solve certain problems. So my parents decided to have my aunt tutor me. My aunt was fierce, she teaches at the same elementary school I went to and most of her student says she’s very strict. I remember her pinching me whenever I start to space out. She would also hit my hand with a ruler whenever I can’t answer questions that she just went through. Although she was very strict, my aunt also had a sweet, gentle side, but she doesn’t openly express it. Every time we finish our tutoring session she would go to her fridge and hand me several candies for me to munch on as I walked home, and in turn I gave her a hug.
