Fluoroscopic Radiology, also known as real time imaging, (Bushong pg.637)is when x-rays flow continuously to helps doctors to see the function of the body while in motion. . With a regular diagnostic X-ray can only see a still frame when an x-ray is produced. For example, a patient comes into a medical facility …show more content…
Mammography is a radiograph taken of the breast tissue that can not only be used to diagnose problems in the breast tissue, but can also evaluate the extent of the damage to make sure that each patient gets care that is specialized for them.. In Mammography cancerous lumps in breast tissue can be discovered as many as two years before a patient or doctor can feel the lump in breast tissue with their hands. ( PBS news, on PBS.org) Mammography uses a low dose of radiation to highlight differences in tissue densities. If there is cancer in breast tissue it will be more dense, or thick, therefor appear brighter than the pure breast tissue surrounding the cancer. A calcification or cancer spot that is as small as 0.1mm or less can be seen with this modality (Carlton Adler pg586). For this reason breast cancer has been found, and cured more than 1.3 million women in the last thirty years (PBS news on PBS.org). That is a vast number that can continue to grow if patients will utilize the resources within the Radiology Mammography departments. Less than half of women that should be getting a mammogram done do not do it. All women at the age of 40(American Cancer Society) should get annual screenings …show more content…
In the room will be equipment such as a C-arm (mobile fluoroscopic tube) to use as a visual guide to whatever vasculature may need to be reached. Such as a tumor, that has to receive an outside blood supply must have vasculature leading into the tumor(Introduction to Interventional Radiology By: Dr.Quencenta Dennis Aiken Technical College). In Interventional Radiology the Interventional Radiologist would use catheter wire along with chemo guided through the vasculature to send the chemo into the tumor in order to kill of the tumor without harming the patient further with having a major surgery (mountauburnhospital.org) to have it removed. With removal holds the threat that it could cause the tumor to rupture into the surrounding tissue causing the matter in which the tumor is constructed to spread. This modality can save lives in so many ways. It can also be used in diagnosing vascular issues somewhat like that of fluoroscopic radiology if a contrast agent is send into the vasculature to visualize any type of strictures that may be present to be able to be dilated, or a stent implanted, which will allow for normal flow through that
