Orthotic fabrication for an individual with radial nerve palsy requires a balance between protecting the skin while trying to provide increased function for the extremity. Radial nerve palsy depends a lot on where the nerve is damaged.
Description of the radial nerve palsy orthosis:
• Hand and wrist in neutral alignment, the wrist in slight extension
• Length of orthosis is two-thirds the length of the forearm

Some causes of radial nerve palsy, which may lead to the previous named signs and symptoms are: Devices that press on the radial nerve (crutches, straps), positions of the body (resting hand on edge of desk while typing), cuts, growths, or bruises on hand. Fractures or dislocations are also common contributors to radial nerve palsy. Care of the orthotic is very important for the healing process. Clients should be instructed not only in proper orthotic care but in hygiene of the body part included in the orthosis. Hand washing and air drying of the orthosis is recommended. The inside of orthoses should be wiped out with rubbing alcohol, if using mole skin change as needed. The outside of the orthoses can be cleaned with toothpaste or nonabrasive cleaning agents and rinsed with tepid water.
