Racism is discriminating against a race because that race is different than one’s own. It causes many of the issues seen in the world today, such as oppressive governments and riots. It takes the human race and divides it into groups based on the color of one’s skin, or where that person came from. Racism is a major issue in the world because it promotes a sense of superiority to one race, causes violence, and divides people who should be united. The first problem with racism is that it makes one race feel that it is better than other races. A certain race may feel superior because they may have a different skin color, were born in a certain place, or they were raised to believe that they are superior by their parents or their friends (“Explore Racism”). Racial superiority has caused many issues around the world. For example, in the United States, African Americans had to face segregation, which is a form of racism. They were not allowed to use the same facilities or enter the same buildings as their white counterparts. Instead, they were forced to use facilities built for African Americans, which were usually substandard compared to the facilities built for white people. In addition, there was the South African apartheid, which restricted native South Africans from living in their own neighborhoods or even walking in certain …show more content…
Racism obstructs humanity from dealing with issues such as the economy, global warming, and world hunger. If racism continues to be a part of society, it will widen the rifts between people even further. Neighbors will see each other as enemies simply because they are from a different place, and violence will become more rampant. Racism is blocking the success of humanity, and only with the combined efforts of every race, from every corner of the world, can this issue be
