The term racism refers to the assertion that there is a superior and inferior group based on race. In this case the book does not say exactly say much about the human characters in the book so the only group that can be attributed as a different race is the arch-builders. During the book the Arch-builders are very mysterious and some of the townspeople accept them, while some of them despise them or fear them. During the book there is a conflict between Efram Nugent and Pella’s father clement who have differing opinions on how the Arch builders should be treated.
