Organizational culture is centered on (cultural) values, usually the values of the original founder(s) of the organization, depending on the history of the organization (Mitchell, 2016). Sidney Gilbreath, who was the first president of ETSU, had espoused values ranging from the Support goal of regional service, Scholarship and the study of education as a science, practice of teaching. However, none centers on educating the employees and students on racism. There is a saying that an untrimmed grass becomes a forest. Meaning, if ETSU management fails to address racism now, it might dent the university image. Externally, racism is a belief in America, expressed by those who believe. Moreover, this believe propelled Rettke’s decision by racially provoking black students on a peaceful protest. The internal factor whereby the problem occurred can be traced to school authority not having laid down penalties and regulations (fully known to students) regarding the consequences of racism within the university, since the school comprises of different ethnic groups. The school management should have put in place different measures to deprive either freshmen or returning students from racism within the university premises since it is a learning environment not the outside world. Considering another aspect, why such incident happened can be traced to new opportunities. Opportunities are everywhere and that is why people migrate, including the Americans who migrated from Britain. We have so many whites preferably, Americans are working in Asia and Africa, especially in the oil producing regions. Likewise, we have blacks and other ethnic groups here in America either for studies or work. Now when you look at the percentage of other ethnic groups in the workplace or institutions, it is enormously high because opportunities are being utilized either by skills, discipline or profession and ability to learn more (Carolyn, 2016). Probably like an online course, just like the discussion aspect of our management class being tutored by Dr. Mitchell. This can be a platform for general discussion with adequate grading of all students. This platform will help everyone speak his or her mind with respect to racism, diversity and culture. Feedback will be displayed on student’s rubrics by the instructor and statistics of students’ response and contribution can be sent quarterly to the school management for assessment and proactive measures on how to improve
