One reason why a soldier would not have quit is because a soldier would want to support the other soldiers. In document A, it talks about death and sickness tolls. Some people might use this as a reason to quit, but some would use this to stay because they wouldn’t want the soldiers to die in vain. A soldier would be abandoning his friends if he left.
