Perseverance is “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition” (perseverance, 2017) This quality is one a leader needs to have to succeed because not everything for them will come easy and they will face struggles but to be a leader you need to be able to power through them and continue to lead your people to greatness. If a leader is not perseverant than the people they are leading will surely fail and will not be able to progress and move forward with the task at hand. Washington was perseverant from a very young age when he had to drop out of school and self-teach himself. (George Washington, 2012). Washington had to teach himself many things such as how to read, write, and many other school subjects. This posed many challenges for Washington growing up but he showed through his perseverance that if you try hard enough at anything you can make something of yourself. Washington took this perseverance with him through the rest of his life and it would become a useful asset as a general in war. Having the odds stacked against him and the American people with the British having a much stronger and bigger army he needed to have perseverance to get through this. Washington’s men also were able to feed off of Washington’s perseverance and become perseverant themselves, and this is what a great leader is able to do; instill his traits into his men to the point where they have them themselves. America’s independence when it comes down to it could be attributed to George Washington’s perseverance. His perseverance didn’t just stop at gaining America’s independence he used it all throughout his presidency. Washington showed it through all of his decision making as president and through all the struggles of making a new country and setting it up to be a great one. He was perseverant enough to convince the American

1776 was written by renowned author David McCullough and retells the events of the American Revolution. The book closely follows George Washington as he commands the American army through the hardships that they faced in these times. Both Washington and his soldiers dealt with harsh conditioning which lead to low morale. This sense of overall gloom contributed to the departing of many of the soldiers in the war and some even took weapons or other trinkets of war as collateral for their time spent. Washington is seen today as a outstanding general and the main reason for the overall victory of the independence of America but at the time he was seen as unfit for such a high possession in the army that would be leading a Revolution against the British Empire.…

George Washington was indeed a great leader, however, he never really aspired to be one; he was known as the “Father of our Country” and was unanimously elected the first President of the United States for two terms. Washington was born on February 22, 1732, in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Little is known about George’s early life and his education but, his formal education ended around the age of fifteen. It’s not very clear why very little is known about Washington’s childhood. In 1753 George Washington was asked to deliver a message to the French and on his return, he was tested of his forbearance; he hiked for days through snowy woods, fell off a raft into the Allegheny River, nearly drowned, and was forced to spend a freezing night on an island without shelter.…

When I think of Claudius, the cliché “All is fair in love and war” comes to mind. Claudius, right or wrong, obviously thought of himself as a better leader than his brother and took drastic action to prove it. Claudius secretly murdered his brother, King Hamlet, and then married the dead king’s wife, Gertrude, consequently becoming the new king of Denmark. Though murder is not how I would approach the situation, I cannot say this sole act made Claudius a poor leader. Many great leaders have gained their positions through murder and war; furthermore, Claudius did seem to be acting in good faith on behalf of Denmark.…
