Qualitative Research Interview

A randomized stratified survey was conducted using Pre-tested Questionnaire to study the treatment regimens being used for the management of acute attack and prophylaxis of Migraine. Those factors that assist choice of drugs by the doctors in Karachi, are also explored. A total sample size of 100 family physicians and non-specialist doctors working in hospitals from different socio-economic areas of Karachi were included in the study conducted from February 2009 to December 2010. Response rate of selected doctors were 74%. Those who were neither MBBS nor registered with the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) and those who refrain from filling the questionnaires were excluded. Compliance to guidelines by the doctors for pharmacologic and non- pharmacologic recommendations and opportunities of cost reductions were studied. Five point Likert scale (1 = Low score & 5 = High score) rating along with binary choice (Yes/ No) were presented as mean and 95% CI respectively. Open-ended questions were also used to explore more information or get clarification.

7. What are common complaints patients usually present to the doctors?
8. Do the doctors use drugs which are not recommended by any of the international clinical guidelines for acute treatment or prophylaxis
