Legs are an important part of human life. Humans use their legs in almost every aspect of their life. For athlete's, legs are also very important. One important muscle group of the leg includes the quadriceps muscles, otherwise known as the quadriceps femoris. The quadriceps are made out of four other different muscles, that all work towards a specific function for the body. Although it might not be one of the most important muscles, the quadriceps muscles are a very important leg muscle that has a great impact on our lives. The quadricep femoris muscles cover most of the femur and is made up of four parts. These four parts include: vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, vastus intermedialis, and rectus femoris. The vastus medialis is on the inner side of the thigh, and makes up the shape of the inner leg. The vastus lateralis is on the outside of the leg and therefore shapes the outer leg. The front part of the thigh is the vastus intermedialis. The rectus femoris however is straight down the front of the thigh, sitting on top of the vastus intermedialis. All four of these muscles come together to make one big tendon that comes over the knee. These muscles are the only extensor of the knee joint, therefore very important for …show more content…
There are many possible ways to exercise the quadriceps, and many of them are fairly simple. Squats are the first and foremost go to exercise for your quads. Either squatting with weight or even sitting down in a chair and standing back up again both exercise the quadriceps. Lunges are also a great way to work out the quadriceps muscles, they are fairly easy to do, and strengthen the quad very well. Any pose that has the front knee held flexed will automatically work the quadriceps! You can also work on flexibility on the quadriceps is the quadriceps stretch.
