The subjects of the Qing Dynasty felt anger towards their emperor for giving in instead of towards the Europeans. This resentment towards their emperor led to the Taiping rebellion. After that there was a major epidemic, followed by a series of many reforms, which have been previously discussed. Unlike the subjects of the Qing Dynasty, the subjects of the Ottoman Empire had an intense hate for Europeans. This resentment they had caused them to become secret allies with Germany and eventually become one of the Central Powers in World War I.
During the time period between the nineteenth and the early twentieth centuries, both the Qing Dynasty and the Ottoman Empire went through many economic changes. They both had many reforms and as well as many quarrels with the Europeans. In both empires, the Europeans had a hand in their economic downfalls, in different ways but with the same result. And both empires responded differently to what the Europeans had done to
