Many companies in the United States utilize promotions when selling is stagnant. According to Tanner & Raymond pg. Chp. 12, promotions are also utilized to gain customer perspectives. In the United States, the promotional component is done along with “advertising, public relations, and personal selling” among other things, (Tanner, Raymond, 2012). Many companies run sales promotions on their products such as providing coupons for their customers. Promotions like these are only for a short period of time, however, when they are run it will most likely prompt customers to buy that particular product. These are useful when people are going through hardships or the economy is not doing well. Another promotion is when companies use what’s called a “pull strategy”, this is when buyers are targeted by receiving coupons at home and getting to the store asking for the product (Tanner et al., 2012). A good example of a “pull” strategy is when a company pulls the product closer to the consumer in order for the buyer to gain a better understanding of the product such as developing knowledge of a brand rather than the product.
