A short condensed version of "The Scarlet Letter" would be that Hester Prynne was forced to wear a scarlet "A" on her chest which stands for adultery. Hester had an affair on her husband, Roger Chillingworth, with Arthur Dimmesdale. She had to stand on the scaffold in the middle of town with her daughter, Pearl, so the rest of the community can publicly humiliate her. Roger Chillingworth makes Arthur Dimmesdale suffer for his sin. Arthur Dimmesdale didn't take responsibility for the affair until the very end. He was on the scaffold with Hester and Pearl in front of the community. Dimmesdale announces that God sent him to the scaffold where he finally gets his kiss from Pearl. After he gets his kiss he dies. A year later, Chillingworth died. Pearl got some inheritance. Hester lives alone in their old cottage helping the women of the town. Now, they all respect her.
