What urged me to research about the public school vs. private school converse is that my next-door neighbor, Mal, who was 6 at the time was applying to the private school that I attended since I was 4. She had met all financial criteria, was hard working, and an athlete. After having hope that she was going to soon be attending my private middle school, her hopes plummeted, she was denied. Was it because she was from the Native American background? After researching I found that “Because private schools define the identity of their communities, they often pick and choose between candidates based not only on their scholastic achievement but also their ethnicity and religious background” (Private).
