Despite an undergraduate education, three four-month work placements and diverse volunteer work, I have a desire to know more about the role PR can play in the strategic operation of an organization. While not all work environments practice strategic communications, instead opting to issue a press release simply based on common practice, graduate studies would expose me innovative PR approaches grounded in reason and theory; approaches more likely to result in stakeholder behaviour that is both desired and pivotal. This in turn would allow me, upon re-entering the workforce, to counsel organizations on the best ways to use PR campaigns to see the results that they need to succeed.
As practices in the field differ greatly between countries and cultures, and as programs with this level of specialization do not exist in Canada, I strongly feel that studies within the United States would align best with my intention to become a PR strategy expert in Canada. I am interested in two programs for this purpose: the M.S. in Public Relations and Corporate Communications at New York University (NYU) with a concentration in corporate and organizational communication, and the Master of Professional Studies in Public Relations and Corporate Communications (PRCC) at Georgetown
