Pew Typology After my political typology quiz, I discovered that my typology is known as being a young outsider. According to the pew research quiz, being a young outsider entails being mixed into both major political parties. Although young outsiders would most likely lean toward the Republican party economically, socially they tend to have more liberal views.…
I was also very shocked to see that Trump’s score (1.5C) was so close to the center of the spectrum. I, and I would assume many other Americans, view Trump as a very extreme candidate. However, like Hacker says, there are only really polls for hot-button issues that the public is vested in, and that polls/surveys for minor issues that don’t have much public interest are often ignored. This idea could help explain Trump’s low conservative…
In democracy, public opinion is very important for politicians because citizens are the ones who elect their office representatives, at the same time citizens have to act together to solve collective action problems. Polls express citizens’ public opinion that government pays attention and mobilize their campaigns around these opinions. However, a person has a combination of different beliefs, feelings and behavior about politics based on information and knowledge that has been acquired throughout different sources. Also, how consistent and strong are these attitudes vary by person. In addition, at individual level opinion on certain issues, evaluations of candidates, campaigns, and parties are based on five different factors.…
In the American political system, opinion polls are an important way to measure the general public’s ideological beliefs and opinions on certain key issues. According to Patterson, a public opinion poll is, “a poll or survey in which a relatively few individuals are interviewed to estimate the opinions of a whole population” (2013). These types of polls are also used to see which candidate the American people prefer in presidential election years. This election cycle is no different, especially in the battleground state of Florida. Both Mr. Trump and Secretary Clinton are vying to win the support of Floridians.…
This could cause them to respond randomly and skew results. Another weakness in this poll was the sample of students that were surveyed. Although I was able to survey a graduate student, the rest of my respondents were undergraduates. The age difference could possibly affect the way the students responded. If I were to conduct this poll again, I would take the time to explain what the electoral college is and how it works, in an unbiased manner, to the students I was surveying so that they would be able to provide a more knowledgeable response.…
According to my survey findings, exactly half the respondents thought the Electoral College should be abolished and the other half thought it shouldn’t. My survey was conducted for two days: September 23rd and September 25th. On the 25th 5 out of the 6 respondents said that the Electoral College should not be abolished. While on the 23rd, majority said the Electoral College should be abolished.…
You have run a tremendous campaign thus far and your team has given you the ability to be in a position to win the nomination within the Republican Party. The tactics your team has used have clearly worked and attracted a supportive backing, but there is an interesting tactic that you may want to utilize: push polling. Push polling is a marketing technique and a polling strategy that allows a team to push a certain agenda and favor a candidate without being outright. The polling is conducted with subtle changes in a normal question that has a high chance of making voters lean in a certain direction, as many do not involve themselves extremely tightly in politics.…
Thus, it is important to evaluate a poll fully before relying on the…
The election season is one of the most important periods of time for a citizen of the United States. Every four years the country is glued to their television screens or their phones for much of the year as political candidates are named and the announcement of a new president, or a second term for the current president is announced. Opinions on political matters are also shared more often and with higher magnitude as the rise of social media has continued with users able to use share their opinions to a wide audience at any time. Despite all this, the voting turnout for presidential elections and voting on issues has been down for quite some time, especially for the young adult and college student crowd.…
The American nation is a declared cabinet of hope and freedom in which the people are liable for regulating what the country will take part in. Voting is a primary action for citizens to get their opinion and beliefs acknowledge by the government. When citizens appoint the decision to disengage in voting they are purloining their own freedom of speech, that individuals across the nation desire to receive. The foundation of America is a democracy, in which people should have the willing thought to participate in a free council administration that's grants liberty in opinion. However, every democracy lacks a sense of perfection with disagreements and some lack of knowledge.…
Also polls do not matter because, people change their minds all the time and the results are never the same. Just like in the beginning of the campaign Trump was more popular than Clinton but now in recent polls Clinton is gaining popularity over…
Voter suppression violates the voting Amendments of American citizens. The reoccurring trend is that voter suppression tends to target the minorities and their voting rights. In the Constitution there are several Amendments that states these minorities are able to vote. In 1870 the 15th amendment, which prevented the government from discriminating based off of race and color, was passed. Despite having the 15th amendment, it was not until 1965 African Americans were able to vote due to the obstacles such as literacy tests and poll taxes.…
Critical Assessment of “Sentiments of the Nation,’ Chilpancingo, Mexico” Mexico had a hard time gaining independence around 1810-1815. The two men leading this struggle were Miguel Hidalgo and Jose Maria Morelos, both parish priests. Hidalgo was more reformed and quirky whereas Morelos was a little lack luster but had more respect from the community. Hidalgo made an insurrection in 1810 that expressed his opposition toward colonial government and the immigrant Spanish elite. Despite it declaring a rush for independence, he was still executed.…
Voter Suppression in the United States has been in an issue for a long time, but the majority of the people fail to recognize what could happen if these bills pass. In small and major elections, voter fraud is something the states are trying to minimize. In order for this to happen, the states pass laws to avoid fraud, but in many cases, these laws prevent certain types of people from voting or scaring them off. In North Carolina, the voter suppression tactic is very recent. There was a law that was passed called the House Bill 589 that was clearly racially biased and bigoted by the writers.…
In this stage, the public’s opinion on the claim is identified. The public’s opinions are taken in a few ways, such as, using social media to see public opinion, taking a sample survey, or by using focus groups to see public opinion. Public opinion can be affected by many things, such as recent events and media coverage. These points are taken into consideration in the policymaking stage as the public is who the government is trying to please. Public opinion can also affect the claimsmaking stage as depending on public opinion, a claim might have to change.…
